ADDICTION

In today’s society, I believe people are addicted to technology. Wherever I go, most people walk around with their eyes glued to their phone. The majority of these people cannot leave the house without their device. Despite the benefits of technological advancements, I feel that we are too dependent on technology. Society, including myself, love technology because it’s fun and easy to use. However, this does not mean everyone should become obsessed with it. I think this obsession leads to a lack of social experiences. Young children receive technology such as phones or computers at much younger ages than past generations. I think this will lead children to feeling uncomfortable in social situations later in life. I feel that technology could be compared to drugs. Like drugs, the more you use technology the more you want to keep using it. For example, if you download a social media app on your cellphone and start to post and follow your friends, you will want to visit the app more and more ultimately becoming an addiction. This is similar to how once you start using a certain drug often, your body will become dependent on it and you will feel that you need the drug all of the time.
Capturing this photo was difficult for me. I struggled with how I would compare drugs to technology. I discovered the idea of showing someone physically doing drugs, but replacing the drug with a cellphone. In my photograph, It appears as if the man is going to snort cocaine, however instead of the drug being on the table there is a phone. I warped the phone to look as if it was being taken up the dollar bill like the drug would have been. I selected a male adult to be the character because not only are kids affected by technology, but adults are beginning to adapt and become obsessed just like children. Also, I chose to have the background with the character in a darker light. This darkness represents how the character is negatively affected by technology. I also turned up the phone brightness all the way to show how technology might seem bright and appealing. With the dark background and character, you can tell that even though the phone may seem bright and inviting it actually has negative impacts.
