LOST

Throughout a person’s life, there are many opportunities and ways to get lost. Some ways are physical, meaning the person is at a certain place and cannot find their way to their desired destination. However, there are far more ways to get mentally lost. Feeling mentally lost can mean you’re stressed, overwhelmed, indecisive etc. Being physically lost is something you can solve easily. Using maps or a gps make it easy to find out where your destination is. Mentally being lost is something you can't always solve. There isn't a mental gps guiding you to the right answer to solve your struggles.

 

In my photograph, I wanted to portray a person being both physically and mentally lost. In my photo, the character is holding a map. This map shows the physical side of being lost. However, on the map you can see written that the location the character is in is called “thought.”  The concept behind my photo is on the popular phrase of being “lost in thought.” It is easy to tell that the character is lost because they are holding a map with a strange X on it. The X is big and covers a lot of space. The character is confused on what he is supposed to be looking for because the X is not clear. This is exactly what being lost in thought is like, constantly thinking with no successful outcome. Many people get lost in their thoughts when they have a problem in their life. They keep searching for the solution but never find it. The X on the map symbolizes the solutions people never can come to while being lost in thought.

 

It can be hard to capture someone being mentally lost because all of these thoughts are going on within the character’s head. It's impossible to look into someone's brain to see what they're thinking. I wanted to bring these thoughts to life by showing a person mentally lost in thought but physically in a place called “thought.”
