Something that I am deeply passionate about in life is preserving the environment. My whole life I have been interested in the world around us and how we can protect it. This concept is what I base many of my photographs off of. From being in Environmental Science and Marine science classes at my school, I learn a lot about certain factors that affect our environment the most. The one item that I was surprised by was the plastic bottle. In class, I learned that America alone uses 50 billion plastic bottles per year. The problem with this is they aren't being recycled properly. People in america throw them away instead of recycling. Plastic bottles laying in landfills are useless. I think people should be more aware of the dangers of plastic so they will want to recycle or reuse this material.

 

Many people don’t understand how to reuse plastic. In my life, I reuse it all the time. It is so easy to take plastic and create it into new things. In my photo, I used plastic bottles as simple containers for things I use daily. The purpose of this photo is to give people ideas on how to reuse plastic bottles. I turned the plastic bottles in my house into things like a holder for pens, coins and paper clips. This saved me money because I didn’t have to buy separate containers for these items. In this photo, I decided to use myself as the subject. I pondered using another character, but I came to the conclusion that I should. Since I am the one who actively reuses, I should be the character in the photo.

 

I engaged in this photograph by showing the use of the plastic bottle. In my photograph, I am placing a pencil into the holder. Without this activity, viewers wouldn't be able to tell what the plastic bottle was used for. My overall emotion while taking this photo was hopeful. Showing people simple ways to reuse things can inspire and give them ideas on how to reuse items in their homes.
